The Department of Housing [DOH] has procured the services of MyHousingSearch.com to provide the State of Connecticut with an 800 call center and a web-based housing locator system called CTHousingSearch.org. The goal is to provide a comprehensive list of government-subsidized and privately owned affordable housing. This can save local jurisdictions money and time through the use of an existing housing locator system versus developing a separate system for each community.

Cost

DOH is funding the initial design, development and implementation costs of the call center and the housing locator system. Other sponsors, along with DOH, may fund the continued development and maintenance of CTHousingSearch.org. At this time, initial design and development only includes maintaining the listings of governmentally assisted rental housing in Connecticut.

For local cities and towns that decide that the call center and locator system is an opportunity to provide additional rental resources for residents, there are two ways this can happen as summarized below.

Local Options for Involvement

A local jurisdiction would proceed with its normal procurement process to solicit services for a housing locator system. If MyHousingSearch.com is selected, the local jurisdiction could do one of the following:
  • Provide registration access through the CTHousingSearch.org website. The database would still include everything listed for Connecticut, but the base of local rental units could be expanded beyond just currently listed governmentally assisted properties. If a local jurisdiction uses CTHousingSearch.org, the arrangement would require the local jurisdiction to agree to abide by terms specified by DOH for the use of the website.

  • Develop a local website and use the MyHousingSearch.com housing locator database. As above, the database would still include everything listed for Connecticut, but the base of local rental units could be expanded. Note that website development would be an additional cost.
